For this week’s HTC One X/One XL ROM of the Week, check out the latest CM11 ROM.

Based on the latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat, CM11 ROM brings you the latest Android OS which probably improves performance on your phone by nearly 20-30%.  With this new version, your One X phone will be renewed with new software to make it anew.

If you are still on older Jelly Bean or even Android 4.4.2, it’s definitely time to upgrade.  Since HTC has stopped updating OTA updates, you can just do it yourself by installing a great ROM such as CM11 ROM seen here.

The latest CM11 ROM also ships with a brand, new theme engine and latest Google Camera among other things.  Although the performance on CM11 is pretty beasty, you can make it even faster by raising your minimum CPU values at or over 500Mhz.  I do think that is necessary to really supercharge your One X.

Other than that, make sure you update your CWM/TWRP recovery to the latest version BEFORE installing the ROM as the latest CM11 requires it and I don’t want you to end up with a phone that bootloops.

Definitely give your One X this beasty upgrade when you have time this week(end) and do let me know what you think!

Download CM11 ROM with Android 4.4.4 KitKat for AT&T One X/One XL

Download Android 4.4.3 Gapps(Compatible with 4.4.4!  Do not use older Gapps though!)

To install, reboot into recovery, make backup ROM, wipe data/factory reset, install ROM, install Gapps, and reboot.   (If for some reason you end up in a bootloop, reboot into recovery, go to Advanced Wipe for TWRP or Mounts & Storage for CWM, format/wipe /system, then re-install ROM.)

*Note – Please make sure you have latest CWM v6.0.4.8+ or TWRP v2.7.1.0+ to install Android 4.4.4 KitKat ROMs.  If your version is less than this, you can easily update your CWM or TWRP by going here.

    Hi,
    1. Does my HTC One X have to be rooted before I install this ROM?
    2. Can I install this custom ROM without pc/mac, just from my HTC, can you give me some guidance how to do this.

    thanks in advance

  6. Andres Felipe says:

can i use beats audio with this room ?

    • Ravi says:

No.. thats one of the disadvantage of custom roms, they don’t have beat audio however they will have their own sound tuning mechanism.

      • Fabien says:

Well actually, you can have a custom rom with beats audio. just not aosp or cyanogenmod, you can get it on most custom sense roms available for the htc one x.

  10. Sid says:

Hey Max! Thanks for the brilliant tutorials. I got exposed to the term ‘rooting’ just weeks back and could not restrain myself from trying it out. I have an Int’l HTC One X and work on a Mac OS X. So after a lot of errors and rework and almost bricking my phone i managed to unlock the bootloader, root the phone and update to Clockwork recovery 6.0.4.8
Once all that was done and the phone survived, i had to try to brick it again so i spent hours trying to install CM11 ROM on it. I would have preferred the CM11 M12 snapshot but somehow it just doesn’t get installed. Everytime i try it i end up with an error ‘Installation aborted’. Eventually, i was able to install the NIGHTLY CM11 12242014.
One thing on which your help is needed is the installation of gapps. I’ve tried several times to install the 4.4.3, 4.4.4 and even the micro version but have been unable to install it. I always end up with ‘Installation aborted’ error.
Would greatly appreciate any help on this so that i can access play store and start using the device on a daily basis.

Thanks again for the brilliant videos!
